How to Choose a Gas Engineer in Glasgow (Without Getting Burnt)

Advice 5 min read6 July 2026

Uniformed heating engineer greeting a homeowner at the door with a work van outside

Anyone can print a business card. Only a Gas Safe registered engineer can legally work on your gas appliances — and verifying that takes about a minute.

Check the registration first

Ask for the Gas Safe ID card and check the licence number on the official register. The card shows which categories of work the engineer is qualified for — boilers, cookers, LPG and so on — so make sure the job you are booking is on it.

Compare quotes like for like

  • Is the system clean or power flush included?
  • Is a magnetic filter fitted?
  • Which boiler model exactly, and what warranty length?
  • Is Gas Safe notification and Building Standards paperwork included?
  • Are controls upgraded or reused?
  • Is making good after pipework included?

Red flags

Cash-only pricing with no written quote, pressure to decide today, no fixed address or landline, reluctance to show the Gas Safe card, and quotes that are dramatically cheaper than everyone else's with no explanation.

Why customers pick us

We are Gas Safe registered, fully insured, and cover gas, heating, plumbing and electrical work with one team — so a boiler job that turns out to need electrical work does not need a second contractor. We work across Glasgow and the surrounding areas.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check Gas Safe registration?

Ask to see the ID card and verify the licence number on the official Gas Safe Register.

Should I always take the cheapest quote?

No — check what is included. Cheap quotes often omit the flush, filter, controls or warranty registration.

Do you provide written quotes?

Always, before any work begins.
