Boilers 7 min read9 February 2026

Boiler quotes vary wildly because installers include very different things. Understanding what drives the number lets you compare like with like across Glasgow.
What drives the price
Five factors account for nearly all the variation between quotes:
- Boiler output and brand — a 24kW entry model versus a 35kW premium unit
- Like-for-like swap or a full conversion from a back boiler or open-vent system
- Flue route and whether scaffolding or a vertical flue kit is needed
- System cleaning — a power flush or chemical flush before commissioning
- Controls — basic programmer versus smart or load-compensating controls
What should always be included
Any quote worth accepting includes the appliance, a magnetic system filter, a system clean, new isolation valves, the flue kit, commissioning, Gas Safe notification to Building Standards, manufacturer warranty registration and a full handover of paperwork.
If a price looks unusually low, check whether the filter, the flush and the warranty registration are in there.
Conversions locally housing
We still remove a lot of back boilers and gravity-fed systems. Those jobs take two days rather than one, involve removing tanks from the loft, and need pipework upgrades — but they usually deliver the biggest efficiency gain of any job we do.
