Retailers deliver appliances; they do not always connect them. Any gas connection must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and there is more to it than screwing on a hose.
What a compliant installation includes
- Checking the existing gas supply, isolation valve and pipe size
- Correct bayonet fitting and hose specification, with a restraining chain for freestanding cookers
- Ventilation and room volume assessment
- Tightness test after connection
- Gas rate and burner performance check
- Stability bracket for freestanding cookers where required
- Handover with paperwork and safety advice
Common problems we find
Old rigid connections, hoses past their date, missing restraint chains, and hobs sealed into worktops without the correct clearances. In rented properties these all show up on the gas safety record, so it is worth getting them right at installation.
