Coatbridge and Airdrie are core territory for us, and the single most common gas job across ML5 and ML6 is still removing a back boiler and fire and replacing them with a modern combi.
What back boiler removal actually involves
It is not a straight swap. The old appliance comes out of the fireplace, the chimney is capped and ventilated correctly, the opening is made good, and the new boiler is sited where it can be serviced easily — usually the kitchen or a hall cupboard. The gas supply is almost always upgraded at the same time.
- Remove back boiler and gas fire, cap and vent the flue
- Make good the fireplace opening
- Upgrade the gas run from the meter where it is 15mm
- Reposition the boiler for future serviceability
- Power flush the original pipework and fit a magnetic filter
Other gas work across ML5 and ML6
Cooker and hob connections, gas fire safety checks, appliance relocations, tightness testing after a suspected leak, and pipework upgrades where a modern appliance is starved of pressure. Every job finishes with written documentation you can pass to an insurer or letting agent.
Suspected gas leak? Do this first
Turn the gas off at the meter, open windows, do not touch electrical switches, leave the property and call the national gas emergency line on 0800 111 999. Once the supply is made safe, we attend across Coatbridge and Airdrie to pressure test the installation, trace the escape and repair it properly rather than simply capping the appliance.
Need help with this?
We handle this work every week. See Domestic Gas & LPG in Glasgow or browse all our services.
Frequently asked questions
How long does back boiler removal take in Coatbridge?
Usually a single day for a straightforward ML5 job, including making good and commissioning the new boiler.
Do you cover Airdrie for gas cooker installation?
Yes, across ML6 including pipework alterations, isolation valves and a tightness test with written documentation.
Can you upgrade an undersized gas supply?
Yes. We resize the run from the meter so a modern boiler or range cooker receives correct working pressure, and record the readings.
